Beveled Browser Chrome (Netscape / IE5)
Caption
Grey toolbar frames, inset URL bars, and 3D beveled navigation that taught users to browse.
Historical Impact
Before tabs dominated, Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer 5 wrapped every webpage in skeuomorphic chrome — outset toolbars, beveled back/forward buttons, and metallic address bars. This browser UI set the visual vocabulary that early web designers echoed in their own navigation bars and pill buttons.
