Windows Live Messenger 2009 on Windows 7 with glassy contact list and aero-blue chrome — historical archive
Software / Communication2006 – 2011Featured exhibit

Windows Live Messenger (2009)

The peak of social techno-optimism featuring glassy contact cards, custom emoticons, status bubbles, and vibrant aero-blue gradients.

Historical Impact

Windows Live Messenger 2009 (the MSN 8.x / Wave 3 client) wrapped chat in true Frutiger Aero glass — frosted contact tiles, sky-blue toolbars, custom “winks” and emoticons, and status flowers that made presence feel physical. Alongside Windows 7, it was the social face of late-2000s techno-optimism: glossy, personal, and endlessly customizable before Metro flattened the chat window forever.
